A company has refused to take up electrification work in some Jharkhand villages following threat from Maoists, Energy Minister Rajendra Prasad Singh said.
The agency has given in writing refusing to take up the work following the threat and the government would look into how it could be taken up, Singh said told the Assembly.
Following the refusal, electrification work has been affected in 657 villages in Latehar, Palamau and Garhwa districts, he said.
He was replying to a question by Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch member Bandhu Tirkey, who expressed concern at franchise to private companies for electrification in Ranchi and Jamshedpur.
The minister said that a committee to review allotment of franchisee to private companies in billing and distribution of electricity in Ranchi and Jamshedpur would be set up. A chief secretary-level committee would be set up to look into the franchise. Only when it found it profitable the franchise would be taken forward, Singh added.
