TIRUMALA: Union finance minister Pranab Mukharjee hinted at doubling the budgetary allocation to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the ensuing annual budget.Interacting with mediapersons here on Saturday after having darshan of Lord Venkateswara, he said Rs b500 crore capital fund was allocated to the SHGs in the previous budget and now they were contemplating to double the allocation.Expressing happiness over the progress of SHGs, Pranab Mukharjee said the government was successful in taking the movement to the grass root level by providing bank linkage loans and individual loans to SHG members and ensured a steady income to the rural woman.The Union minister was all praise for the SHG women in Andhra Pradesh. He said that last year, the state government had allocated Rs 1,070 crore for SHGs in addition to the funds allocated by the Centre.
