BHUBANESWAR: Customers of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) have been facing a harrowing time since the last two days as ATM and branch operations in the State continued to be disrupted following the shut down of its National server in New Delhi. Customers reported shut down of ATMs in several parts of the Capital city and outside while many also complained of facing problems in conducting transactions in the branches. The ATMs were most affected with almost half of the machines going blink as a result of which customers had to run from one ATM installation to another to withdraw money. PNB has about 107 ATMs in the State along with 112 branches. The searing heatwave conditions only compounded the misery of the customers. According to sources, the National Data Centre of the PNB headquarters at the Parliament Street has been suspended since Wednesday following a fire accident in one of the floors of the building. The NDC has been shut down as a precautionary measure following the mishap and the network operations are being routed through the Disaster Recovery Server in Mumbai. With heavy load on the server, banking operations were affected across branches and ATMs not only in Odisha but also several other states. Bank officials, however, claimed there has been substantial improvement in the situation on Friday. ATM operations were restored in the majority of the sites while customer banking operations were normalised. The inter bank funds transfer, though, continued to be held back due to the load on the Mumbai server and caused delay in clearance of cheques.AGM PNB Bhubaneswar Ashok Pradhan said “, the problems have been resolved and most of the ATMs in the capital city barring a handful had been restored. The rest would also restored soon. Customer banking services have also regained normalcy”.
