PMK wants UPA to act on Cauvery

Strongly condemning the Centre’s lethargic attitude over the Cauvery water dispute in which Tamil Nadu farmers have been continuously affected, PMK founder S Ramadoss on Wednesday urged the UPA government to wake up from its slumber and act at once to provide water to the delta farmers.

In a statement here, Ramadoss said as per the interim verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, Karnataka should have released 106.65 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu. But Karnataka had released just seven tmcft, which is insufficient for Kuruvai crop in delta areas.

CM J Jayalalithaa had, in her letter, urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene the meeting of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) very soon.
