New Delhi: Following protests from all corners regarding the Cauvery waters issue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said he would discuss the contentious issue with Water Resources Minister Saiduffin Soz.
The Prime Minister assured justice in the matter after an all-party delegation of MPs urged him not to notify final award of the tribunal in this regard.
"The government will consider. He (the Prime Minister) will consult Water Resources Minister and see what best could be done," former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who led the delegation, was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"We, the MP's of Karnataka urge the Government of India to take all the appropriate measures to alleviate the injustice," the MPs said in a memorandum to Singh.
The MPs, observed that the Centre has to play a very active role, and said it would not be possible for the Karnataka to implement the award in its present form.
"Also, to avoid friction in implementation of the award and to see that this does not lead to serious law and order problem in the riparian states, the Centre has to come up with some serious measures in bringing sanity to the present order," the memorandum says.
"Till the matter is rectified we request you not to notify/publish the Award and we look forward to your cooperation and effective role in the interest of the poverty stricken farmers of the State of Karnataka," the MPs were quoted in the memorandum as saying.
