HYDERABAD: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the AP High Court on Saturday requesting the court to direct the state government to call for fresh tenders for Indira Sagar Polavaram project and to expedite the finalisation of tender process. The matter will come up before the division bench comprising chief justice Madan B. Lokur and justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday (March 5).Advocate and president of Polavaram Project Nirmana Sadhana Samithi Sunkara Krishna Murthy, in the PIL, requested the court to declare the government’s decision to cancel the tenders of Polavaram head works as illegal, and to direct the respondents to choose one among the best qualified lowest bidder. There was no response from the government to the request made earlier to reconsider its decision of cancelling tenders.It may be mentioned here that following criticism from various political parties, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy decided to cancel the Polavaram project tenders worth ` 4,717 crore which was finalised last October.
