New Delhi: Over 2.50 lakh students have applied for admission to various undergraduate course of Delhi University the online registration for which ended on Wednesday, with English Honours turning out to be the most sought-after subject.
On the last date on Wednesday, 2,50,220 applicants had completed the registration process, which included 1,29,910 male, 1,20,295 female and 15 others category candidates.
Maximum number of applications (1,15,786) have been received for BA (honours) English course in 2016, followed by BA programme with over 98,000 applications and BA (honours) Political Science too crossing the 90,000 mark.
The online registration for the undergraduate admission 2016-17 ended at 5 PM and as per data till that time the highest number of applications have been from Delhi, officials said.
The payment of registration fee continued till midnight and a few thousand more candidates joined the growing number of DU aspirants.
The number of applications from persons with disability once again remained less than that of the total number of seats reserved for them. As against 1,620 seats reserved for persons with disability only 1,184 candidates filled the online form.
The competition gets tougher even in sports and ECA category as over 18,000 aspirants are vying for 2,700 seats as against 16,000-plus applicants in 2015.
Among the reserved categories, the highest number of applications are from OBC candidates which is close to 50,000 in 2016.
The university will send the admission data to the colleges which will work out the cutoff for the first list which is to come out on June 30 at 9 AM. Admissions will commence on the same date.
Region-wise, DU received nearly 50% of the total applicants from Delhi, while Uttar Pradesh is in second spot with 50,246 applicants followed by Haryana with a little over 21,000 applicants.
