DINDIGUL: Onions worth lakhs of rupees that were stocked in a godown in Dindigul were destroyed in a fire that broke on Friday.

DINDIGUL: Onions worth lakhs of rupees that were stocked in a godown in Dindigul were destroyed in a fire that broke on Friday.The onion commission godown is owned by a private person at Kasim Ravutharpettai along Palani road in Dindigul. Since the onion market is held on Fridays, large quantities of onions had been stored in the godown. Onions are sent from here not only to Theni and Dindigul districts, but also to Kerala and Karnataka. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the godown in the early hours of Friday, due to a short circuit reducing lakhs of rupees worth of onions to ashes.Fire service personnel led by Fire Service Officer Karthik struggled for three hours and extinguished the fire. However, the loss caused by the fire has not been estimated. Dindigul north police have registered a case.
