Thousands of devotees participated in the Onasadya offered at the Lord Ayyappa Temple on the first day of the Onam festival on Tuesday.
Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru lighted the traditional lamp, marking the inauguration of Onasadya. Melsanthi G Balamurali, who sponsored the Onasadya, as part of a usual practice, was present at the inaugural ceremony. Devaswom commissioner N Vasu, Sabarimala devaswom executive officer Sanakaranarayana Pillai and administrative officer Gopalakrishna Pillai were present on the occasion. The feast, which began at 10.30 am, concluded at 3 pm.
Laksharchana was also conducted at the temple on Tuesday. As part of the ritual, thantri Rajivaru performed the Brahmakalasa pooja at 6.30 am in the presence of melsanthi Balamurali. Sahasrakalasam and Kalabhabhishekam were the special rituals held. Both the rituals were held during the Uchcha pooja and were supervised by the thantri Rajivaru and melsanthi Balamurali.
Udayasthamana pooja, padi pooja and pushpabhishekam were the other poojas conducted at the temple. The temple will be closed on August 31, marking the conclusion of the four-day Onam festival celebrations. ENS
