Bangalore: In another incident of unruly and mob-like behaviour by Parliamentarians, the Assembly proceedings in Karnataka was blocked for the fifth day in a row by angry Congress members.
They tore up a copy of a Bill in the Assembly, hurled mikes around the House and even threw away the warning bell.
The issue: election to the post of chairman of the opposition-dominated Council, where the Congress would lose its majority in June.
They even forced the presiding officer to withdraw from the House over Legislative Council Chairman's post election, prompting the JDS-BJP government to hold a cabinet meeting and eventually register a complain with the Governor of Karnataka about the party's misconduct.
Kumaraswamy drove to Raj Bhavan along with Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader B S Yediyurappa and handed over a letter to the Governor, saying the Congress had "degraded and disrespected" the chair and "blatantly and wilfully" obstructed proceedings of the house.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that Congress was not allowing discussion on "sensitive issues" like Cauvery tribunal award.
Uproar and commotion are not new to the Karnataka Assembly. The House was up in arms last year when there was a rumour that the Chief Minister had taken Rs 150 crore as bribe from the mine owners in Bellary.
Before that, there was unrest in the Assembly after Siddaramaiah wasn't allowed to submit his resignation in the House.
