Now, SMS alerts on traffic pile-up

CHENNAI: The Chennai Traffic Police on Friday launched a free SMS alert service to give real-time information to commuters about  congestion at various roads.Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Sanjay Arora said that the service was being provided by SMS Gupshup, which had successfully launched similar traffic alert communities in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Bhopal and Nagpur.The system in Chennai is also supported by Stalwart Security Services.Those wishing to get free SMS alerts on traffic situations should register themselves by sending an SMS— JOIN CTP to 09219592195.After receiving a confirmation, the mobile subscriber would get regular traffic updates through the SMS service.The service would be useful for the commuters to know the traffic situation and select an appropriate road for their travel.The SMS service is free of cost and the only charge to be paid is for the initial message to initiate subscription.
