BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the proceedings of the disproportionate- assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. One of the co-accused in the case, Sashikala Natarajan, had requested that the proceedings in the lower court be stayed until one of the witnesses, auditor Balaji, was recalled to the court. The petitioner had challenged special court’s June 3 order of refusing to recall the witness. The petitioner contended that his cross-examination was essential. The HC declined the request. Also, Justice K N Keshavanarayana issued notice to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and adjourned the case to June 21.For the first time, DVAC has appointed a new law firm to represent it in the court.
