BANGALORE: Residents in and around ISRO colony, near ESI Hospital, Indiranagar have been facing numerous problems due to an open drain near the compound. They have been facing this problem for more than two decades now.Since the area is low lying, a lot of water collects during the rainy season. Most of the water ends up accumulating in front of the resident’s houses and the road. The road becomes unusable and to add to the resident’s woes, the place turns into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The debris from all the construction that has taken place in the area has been dumped recklessly near the drains for years now. As a result, the drains have been constantly getting clogged.Even after repeated complaints to the corporator, Geetha Srinivas Reddy, it has not been cleared.“We have complained to the authorities many times but nobody seems to be taking any action. When it rains the roads get flooded and it becomes a nuisance to us,” said Ashwath Narayanan, a resident of ISRO quarters. The corporator claimed that repair work in the area has been in progress. “I cannot say exactly when the situation will be resolved. The drain in front of my house is also open and is causing a lot of problems,” she said.Dirty water and debris has been collecting in front of the ISRO Colony for a long time now. The authorities have made umpteen promises to fix the problem and the residents too have tried to bring about a change for years but there seems to be no solution.“The roads are very bad and the water from the drain has been damaging it further. We have been facing this problem for over a decade now,” said BS Das, a resident of the area. “The BBMP is trying it’s best to solve this issue,” said the corporator.Every spell of rain only worries the residents as they say the roads get worse and the drains get clogged. The residents said they are tired, after appealing to the BBMP for years. “Sadly the officials seem to choose to ignore it,” says BS Das. The situation at the ISRO housing colony is just one among the many problems faced by people across the city.In case such problems are taken care of at an earlier stage, the situation will not be as bad. The residents of ISRO colony are living in hope for some kind of improvement in their plight.
