CHENNAI: About two dozen functionaries of the State Congress, who were expelled during the tenure of former TNCC president KV Thangkabalu, could hope for relief as the new boss has promised to look into the issue. The issue of expulsion of 19 functionaries, including former Deputy Mayor Karate Thiagarajan and actor S Ve Shekher, a day after the April Assembly elections had kicked up a row.The issue became more contentious when even more functionaries, including veteran politician G A Vadivelu, S M Idayatullah, Jothi Ramalingam and Mayilai Periasamy, were expelled in August. While those shown the door on the poll eve were faulted for working against the official candidates of the party and allies, those expelled later were charged with anti-party activities like forming a ‘restructuring committee’ to rejuvenate the party. Speaking to Express, B S Gnanadesikan, who will formally take charge on Wed-nesday, said, “I will look into the issue. So far, I have not received any representation. Let me, however, see what happened and why.” Stating that his priority was to strengthen the party, he said he would address the grievances of all sections of party workers.
