HYDERABAD: The road over bridge at Lakdi-ka-pul which caters to huge vehicular traffic is going to be widened soon. After the work is completed, it will provide an additional carriageway of 11 m along with a footpath of 2 m. The width of the existing bridge is 9.7 m.The South Central Railway has taken up a part of the construction on the request of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The works which began on July 17 are estimated to cost is Rs 9.14 crore. The civic body has released 25 percent of funds at present. Addressing mediamen on Saturday, SK Sharma, chief administrative officer (construction) said the SCR's share of the work will be completed by October 11. The construction would have taken at least a year in the conventional method. However, SCR is using a modern construction technology called 'steel composite superstructure' to complete it within 3 months.Railway officials expressed confidence the work will not exceed beyond October 11. There will be a speed restriction of 50 kmph on MMTS trains which pass under the bridge near the construction site for a fortnight, officials said. When asked about GHMC's work, P Panduranga Rao, engineer-in-chief, GHMC said tenders have been called for their part which will be finalised.
