Bajaj came up with their first high-capacity motorcycle Pulsar CS (Cruiser Sport) 400 concept some two years ago. Now, the powerful concept is ready to hit the roads, and will be called the Dominar 400.
This will be Bajaj's newest flagship and will be the first model in the new sub-brand of high-performance motorcycles. It is due for launch on December 15.
Engine
The Dominar 400 will have a single-cylinder unit derived from the KTM 390’s 373cc. It will have fuel injection, liquid cooling and Bajaj’s patented triple-spark plug technology, which will help the engine to make 40 bhp and 30 Nm of torque.
Compared to the KTM, the outputs are slightly low but Bajaj has tuned the engine to better suit the Dominar's touring requirements. It will be paired to a six-speed transmission.
Equipment
The production version of the Dominar will have the same split instrument cluster with a digital readout on the fuel tank, that was seen on the concept during the 2014 Auto Expo. Also, this is the first time a Bajaj bike will feature an all-digital instrument console.
It will have conventional telescopic front suspension, and a monoshock setup for the rear. The concept however had upside-down front forks. It will come equipped with disc brakes for both front and rear. Bajaj may also equip the motorcycle with a single-channel ABS as standard, while an optional dual-channel ABS.
Price
Bajaj have been known for keeping prices competitive. The Dominar 400, owing to similarities with the RS and KTM bikes, could likely be priced at around Rs 1.6-1.7 lakh. Engine and performance wise, the Dominar 400 does not direct competition, but in terms of pricing it could be pitted against Mahindra Mojo and the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
