BANGALORE: In a significant step that would allow people with disabilities to enjoy more benefits and social security, the State Government intends to launch new programmes for disabled welfare in the next budget.Speaking at a programme organised to mark the World Disability Day on Saturday, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that the government will come out with two to three new programmes to help persons with disabilities and it would be announced during the next budget.The chief minister also made an appeal of the Women and Child Welfare Department to extend three per cent reservation to be considered in all departments. “The government will take action in this regard,” he added.According to the chief minister, the State has 9.4 lakh people with disabilities out of the 70 million in the country. In Karnataka, there are 3 lakh persons with disabilities, who are under 18 years of age, he said.Appreciating that talent and effort of the differently abled persons who are working in various fields, he said that there are several persons with disabilities who are also suffering. The Chief Minister also spoke on various programmes launched by the government for the welfare of disabled that included issue of identity cards to six lakh people, bus passes for one lakh persons and monthly pension among others.
