BHUBANESWAR: Senior leader Sandhya Mahapatra has been appointed working president of the Orissa Pradesh Mahila Congress (OPMC). Mahapatra will be in charge of the State unit as a president is yet to be appointed. The incumbent Asima Mahananda has been appointed secretary of the All India Mahila Congress. Sources said senior leader and former minister Bijaylaxmi Sahu is likely to succeed Mahananda. Changes in the Mahila Congress were effected as the high command wanted to make the organisation more vibrant. During the last several years, the organisation had not been very active as a result of which party programmes could not make much of an impact on the people. Mahananda was in the top post for several years. Another senior leader Sabitri Sahu has been appointed general secretary of the OPCC. Sahu had unsuccessfully contested the 2009 Assembly election. The Orissa Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC) also remains headless for the last two months. The process for election of the next president of the youth wing has already started.
