Nelliampathy: MLAs acting in favour of TN, says PC George

Government Chief Whip P C George has alleged that the attempts by some politicians to term Shernelly (Cherunelly) estate in Nelliampathy as forest land, is to favour Tamil Nadu.

In a veiled criticism against the five UDF MLAs for their findings on Nelliampathy, George demanded a CBI probe into the role of certain politicians and a film mafia in favouring Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, P C George came down heavily on the MLAs including Sreyamskumar, for their recommendations to take over Shernelly estate.

He also rubbished the claims that bank loans were availed of by Shernelly estate holders by pledging false documents.

The MLAs should come forward to evict encroachers in Munnar also, he said.

“A CBI probe should be carried out into the attempt by certain forest officials and politicians to convert the estate to forest land, so that it can be added to the tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu.

” “There are about 160 sq km short of land for the tiger reserve.

If the entire panchayat is taken over and added, it will suffice.

The role of a film mafia which is involved in it should also be probed,” he said.

“The CBI should also look into the issue wherein some forest officials are trying to sabotage the proposal for a new Mullaperiyar dam by taking money from Tamil Nadu.

A CBI probe should also be conducted into why a women advocate was brought in to appear for forest cases while the government has 120 pleaders, 18 special prosecutors, an Advocate General, two additional AGs and a State Attorney,” he said.

Rubbishing the UDF MLAs’ recommendations, George said if Shernelly estate is converted into forest land that would be equivalent to converting Kattappana and Nedumkandam in Idukki into forest land.
