BHUBANESWAR: The demand for resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by Opposition parties over hooch tragedy grew louder even as he reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting here on Friday.  The meeting discussed the condition of 47 patients being treated in the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Minister of State for Excise Sharada Prasad Nayak, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj and senior officials attended the meeting.  Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar district BJP demonstrated at the Ram Mandir Square here demanding resignation of the Chief Minister. District president Amiya Ranjan Dash said the Chief Minister is in the habit of dropping ministers to save his own skin when faced with scams and other crisis situations. The BJP activists also burnt the effigy of Naveen. State Executive Body member Samir Mohanty, Mahila Morcha president Bijaylaxmi Mohapatra and other leaders also addressed the demonstration.  The Bhubaneswar zonal council of the CPI also demonstrated at the Raj Mahal Square here demanding a CBI probe into the hooch tragedy. It also staged a ‘rasta roko’ to press for the demand. Secretary of the zone Sura Jena demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the kin of the deceased besides their rehabilitation.
