New Delhi: Former external affairs minister Natwar Singh's son Jagat Singh tied nuptial knot on Saturday with Somaya, sister of Andaleeb Sehgal, an accused in the oil-for-food scam.
The marriage was a strictly private affair. It took place at exactly 7 pm — to match the fancied date of 07-07-07. In the process, the two friends turned their alleged link in the oil-for-food scam into a 'relationship'.
The marriage took place in the Royal Palace at Chail in Himachal Pradesh, which was once owned by the forefathers of former Punjab chief minister Amrinder Singh but now under the control of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC).
While rain in this resort town forced the wedding ceremony indoors, it did begin sharp at 7 p.m. inside the sprawling Palace Hotel.
The hotel staff worked frantically to shift the venue indoors after heavy rain ruined all arrangements made in the open at the heritage property located amid tall deodar trees in scenic Chail.
They said the entire hotel had been booked since Friday for the wedding which was attended by selected invitees whose names were not revealed.
"Staff at the hotel has also been instructed not to reveal anything to anyone," a hotel official said.
Jagat's marriage, his second after his first wife had allegedly committed suicide some years ago, was kept a private affair and mediapersons were banned from entering the palace.
Sources in the palace said no politician or other noted dignitaries were part of the guest list. They said Amrinder Singh, a close relative of Natwar Singh, was not seen but his MP wife Parminder Kaur and mother were present.
After rain and strong winds played spoilsport uprooting the tents put in the palace lawns, all the functions took place inside the palace, the sources added.
