New Delhi: World No 2 Rafael Nadal booked his place in the final of the $436,000 Chennai Open ATP Tennis championship on Saturday night defeating Carlos Moya in the second semi-final.
In the match between two Spaniards, Nadal prevailed over Moya in a tough three-set encounter winning the match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. The almost four-hour encounter ended in Nadal’s favour when he won the third set tiebreaker 7-1.
The first and second set between top seed Nadal and two-time former champion Moya, too, went to the tiebreakers.
While Moya won the first set tiebreaker 7-3 to clinch the set 7-6, Nadal fought back in the second to level the match.
Though Moya sent down nine aces compared to four by Nadal but he also double faulted times four compared to only one by the French Open champion.
Nadal will meet Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny in the final on Sunday.
Earlier, Youhzhny beat Croatia's Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the first semi-final.
Nadal has faced Youzhny eight times winning on five occasions and coming second best thrice.
