Lucknow: As normalcy returns to Muzaffarnagar, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to visit the riot-hit area on Monday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will also be visiting the area to assess the situation in the trouble-torn district.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi are also expected to visit the district next week. Congress has demanded stern action against all those found responsible for the Muzaffarnagar riots. Congress General Secretary and in-charge of party affairs in the state Madhusudan Mistry had said that those instigating violence cannot be allowed to go scot free on the ground that they are workers of political parties.
Muzaffarnagar had been hit by communal clashes between members of two communities which had led to the death of 48 people and injured several others. 41 cartridges of AK-47 and 17 other cartridges were seized by the police during house-to-house searches in a village in the riot affected region.
