Must Declare if You Are a Virgin Before Joining This Bihar Govt Hospital
Hospital superintendent Mandal stirred another controversy saying that the virginity clause will help in case there is any instance of rape in the future

Patna: It’s a common procedure to declare marital status before applying to an organisation, however, at Patna’s India Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences new joinees have to also disclose if they are virgin or not.

The clause has now come under scrutiny with women activist groups terming it outrageous. On the other hand, hospital superintendent Manish Mandal said that the hospital administration had received a format from the central government and they were only following it.

However, Mandal also agreed that asking for such personal information can be uncomfortable for a candidate.

Yet, Mandal stirred another controversy when he said that disclosing the status of one’s virginity will help in case there is any instance of rape in the future. However, he did not elaborate on this.

Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey said on Wednesday that he has instructed the hospital to look into the matter.

The form had three options to choose from. These are:

1. I am a 'bechelor'/widower/vergin (sic)

2. I am married and have only one wife living

3. I am married to a person who has no other wife living/ I am married to a person who has another wife living.

Social activist Suman Lal has demanded to remove the word 'vergin' from the list and threatened to start an agitation if her demands are not met with.
