Mumbai: It's yellow and available in all sizes - some ready to eat, others still raw.
It's time for mango bonanza in Mumbai. With a bumper crop this season, the city is flooded with the king of fruits. And mango lovers just can't keep their hands off their favourite fruit.
"There's a good stock this year. Devghad variety is available at good rates too," says Pankaj Shah, a buyer.
With a large family that loves mangoes, Pankaj Shah picks up four boxes and doesn't mind the bill of Rs 2,000.
And with truckloads of mangoes coming in from the mango belt of Konkan, avid buyers like him are making the most of the excess stock. But quality still remains high on their priority.
"I'm a diabetic, but I love mangoes," says Lakshmikant Mehta.
Expectedly, mango King Alphonso stands out in this crowd. With local markets infamous for chemically-ripened mangoes, it's this 'fresh-from-the-orchard products' that the average buyer is willing to shell out any price for.
But not everyone's happy with the competitive pricing.
"It's a good crop this year. But after a while, the prices are going to drop. So the customers will surely benefit," says Rajendra Nimkar, a mango trader.
