CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Chennai Corporation and the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to consider a representation to provide shelters in all the bus-stops in the city and pass appropriate orders on it. The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam gave the direction when the public interest writ petition from Nethaji Pokkuvarathu Thozhilalargal Pathukappu Thozhir Sangam, by its treasurer A Vijayararan, came up for hearing today. Earlier Sangam advocate RY George Williams contended that almost all the bus-stops in the city had no proper shelters. They were either damaged or encroached upon. The commuters had to wait for buses under the scorching sun or pouring rain. The drivers and the conductors were at the receiving ends from the travelling public and the union had also been receiving complaints in this connection, Williams added.
