HYDERABAD: Motorists had a harrowing time on Wednesday, when traffic movement came to standstill for a couple of hours on the Begumpet-Secunderabad stretch, with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation staff taking up repair works.Irritated vehicle riders were seen picking up heated arguments with traffic cops at major junctions on the stretch.“We had a tough time to reaching our offices after getting stuck in the traffic jam while it was raining.The situation has been like this since the morning,” fumed a motoristTraffic police personnel failed in controlling the situation with huge traffic snarls prevailing from the Begumpet flyover to Secunderabad.Traffic also came to a standstill at Khairatabad, Punjagutta, Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Lakdi-ka-pul among other areas leaving motorists stranded on for a couple of hours in the rain.With knee-deep water at several areas and on main roads, vehicle riders had a nightmarish experience as the roadblocks continued for a long time after the rain stopped.“There was heavy traffic jam on the stretch from Begumpet-Secunderabad as GHMC workers took up a repair work on the road damaged near the Lifestyle building.There were fivefeet potholes on the road and the GHMC staff swung into action to take up repairs works. This led to heavy traffic snarls on the stretch.Traffic police are coordinating with GHMC staff and repair works will be completed by Thursday morning,” said GVG Ashok Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic).Meanwhile, meteorological department officials said heavy rains were taking place due to formation of a low-pressure trough on sea level from Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu which spread across Telangana and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh Assistant meteorologist S Venkateswara Rao said similar conditions will prevail over the next two days.
