Moscow: Police have 'neutralized' an armed high school student who had taken more than 20 students hostage at his school on the outskirts of Moscow, a police spokesman told Russia 24 television.

According to reports the gunman is 15-year-old and a student himself. The man

took children hostages in one of the schools at Moscow's North East. He entered the building with a rifle, killing one of the policemen who tried to stop him and wounding a teacher.

The spokesman said he had killed a police officer and a teacher.

All Russian schools have an armed security guard, according to a law passed in the wake of the 2004 terrorist attack on a school Beslan, North Ossetia.
