THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) has authorised its director B G Sreedevi and senior scientist Tomy Cyriac to conduct the feasibility study for the Monorail Transport Project connecting Kazhakkoottam and Balaramapuram. The two-member team will seek the services of experts from New Delhi and Mumbai to prepare a comprehensive feasibility study report. ‘’We have already begun the work. The priority is to complete the work in a time-bound manner. We hope to submit the report in three months,’’ Tomy Cyriac told ‘Express’. The ambit of the study is wide and the NATPAC professionals will have to suggest an estimate, extent of land acquisition, possible stops for the monorail and a time frame to complete the work. Tomy Cyriac, who has already done a study on the monorail system in Malaysia, says that with the help of experts, the task can be accomplished in the stipulated time. It is learnt that the NATPAC professionals have already contacted a couple of experts who have vast knowledge of the monorail system and sought their service. Soon, the experts will be inducted into the team. The NATPAC team is likely to visit Mumbai to study the functioning of Mumbai Monorail. The project in Mumbai is fast progressing and will be opened for travel in December. The draft blueprint for the city monorail would suggest Palayam as the hub of activities. Services to Balaramapuram and Kazhakkoottam will commence from Palayam. A major advantage of choosing Palyam is that from there, additional lanes to Airport and Peroorkada can be laid in future. ‘’Once the main structure is in place, we can plan additional lanes,’’ said Tomy Cyriac.
