Model School asks for NUALS campus

KOCHI: ‘We need space to play,’ ‘Give us the old NUALS campus’ and numerous other placards demonstrated the plight of the students of the Model Higher Secondary School in Kaloor, during the meet held on Wednesday. The students demanded their right to better school infrastructure. Model Higher School principal P Saleena said that the school has been urging the concerned authorities to handover the adjacent National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) campus, which was formerly the Government Boys School, to them. The school authorities have submitted memorandums to the District Collector and the Education Minister requesting them to look into the issue. The space would be ideal to develop the basic facilities of the school, Saleena said.The school authorities and PTA heads would meet the Chief Justice and submit a memorandum  as according to the latest reports, the campus is to be turned into a family court. They would also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister when he visits the city on Nov 19, said the principal.R K Damodaran of ‘Mathrubhumi’ inaugurated the meet. PTA president Moideen Shaw presided over it. Artist M V Devan, social activist C R Neelakantan, patron of the Malabar Cultural Association Sankaran and  IGNOU deputy registrar N V Sreedharan were also present.  Saleena,  welcomed the gathering. Students representative Philip Paul and Indrajith Baby spoke on the occasion.
