CUTTACK: A mob on Thursday ransacked a private nursing home at Saanta Sahi under Purighat Police limits alleging negligence in treatment even as the patient, a 32-year-old woman, had died on Tuesday. The patient Archana Sahu, wife of Subhranshu Sahu of Petin Sahi area, had reportedly died of post-delivery complications but the family members and the locals alleged that she had died due to negligence in treatment. With the family members lodging a complaint, police have decided to hand over the documents, relating to the treatment, to a panel of experts of the SCB Medical College and Hospital to determine the truth. The step had to be taken as the woman, being a Christian, had already been buried and postmortem could not be conducted, police said.According to reports, Archana had been admitted to the nursing home on May 28 for delivery. She had given birth through a Caesarean section on May 29. But soon after she developed complications and had to be shifted to ICU of another private hospital. She could not be revived there and succumbed. Her body had been handed over to the family members and her funeral rites conducted the same day. However, there was simmering resentment over alleged negligence in treatment. A group of people on Thursday came to the nursing home and accosted the doctors and the authorities demanding the documents relating to her treatment. An altercation ensued and the group allegedly broke some furniture and equipment in the nursing home. They then went ahead to lodge an FIR. A complaint has also been filed by the nursing home authorities, police said.
