The last 10-months of Modi-government have been phenomenal. The corporate-created mirage of 'Achhe Din Aane Wale Hain' may have misled millions into believing India's time had finally come, but they may be right. India's time had indeed come, to be scorned at and ridiculed by the rest of the world.
Never before has a democratically elected government gone on such a breath-taking mis-adventure which Shri Modi's government has accomplished.
Yesterday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar left no stone unturned to embarrass India. Giriraj derisively mentioned 'Nigerian nationals' in his remarks on Sonia Gandhi's skin colour. The Nigerian High Commission was justifiably, very upset and said they would take up the matter with the South Block. Laxmikant complemented Giriraj's remarks perfectly by claiming dark skinned women have difficulty in finding grooms in India.
Excellent effort by the duo considering India is due to host the India-Africa Summit later this year. Shri Modi also has been spending considerable time outdoors, purportedly to build ties, but comes back each time to see his "rustic" colleagues having tied up his government into ever more challenging knots.
Giriraj's remarks on Sonia Gandhi are worth pondering for the insight it gives you into the Mind of the RSS and BJP. He believes it is skin color which decides a person's stature rather his or her work and capabilities. I suspected it all along, but now my suspicion has come true: BJP leaders are time travelers who bargained their grey cells to travel in the Pushpak Vimaan, but landed amongst us because of a quirk of fate.
The Congress President Sonia Gandhi came at the helm of affairs of the Congress party 17 years ago, when the party had virtually been written off. She took it upon herself to revive the party and revived it. It was not because of the color of her skin that she successfully led the UPA for ten consecutive years, but because of her capabilities.
Another fact needs to be established in Shri Giriraj's brain, which seems to be a fossil relic from the Pleistocene era: that all previous Presidents of the Indian National Congress, Men or Women, came from different ethnic backgrounds and with varying degrees of skin color. Same holds true for various world leaders, from past to present, in whose memory the world still continues to bow in reverence.
However, Shri Modi and his deputy Amit Shah appear reluctant to crack the whip. When Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti made that horrendous "Ramzadon Vs Haramzadon" remark, Shri Modi pardoned her for being a "rustic villager". The BJP President Amit Shah merely said Giriraj "should show restraint, as it embarrasses the party."
Even their apologies sound like they are doing a favor. Maybe it's because the Prime Minister likes such sordid remarks? In 2004, he made some really uncharitable remarks about the ethnicity of the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi. Then he referred to the wife of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor's '50-crore ki girlfriend'. Even as the Prime Minister his bias is unmistakable. He told farmers to plant trees when their daughters are born and sell it when they grow up to fund their marriage. On the other hand, he gives long discourses on how farmers must make their sons professionals.
You see the problem here! According to BJP and RSS, the purpose of a woman's life is only and only to get married. That's precisely why RSS Supremo Mohan Bhagwat said in the past that women should stay home and take care of domestic chores. On another occasion, Bhagwat blamed the education of women for the increasing instances of failed marriages in India.
It's not just one incident, not just about jumping the gun. This is the reality of their mindset. The sexism and racism is deeply rooted and is 'ideological'. Hence, what Giriraj Singh has said is not surprising, he is only adhering the ideology. And then you expect him to be sacked? Not only that you're wrong, your expectations are too high! We planted cactuses in desert; let's not fool ourselves further by expecting lilies out of it.
