Mayor marks 1 month, city sees no change
The helpline promised by the mayor at his office during his first press meet yet to materialise..

BANGALORE:  Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy, who will complete one month as first citizen of Bangalore, doesn’t have any significant achievements to show and is more inclined towards holding  inspections, visits and press conferences every other day.On April 26, Murthy was elected as the Mayor and L Srinivas as Deputy. Since then, the Mayor has conducted at least five press conferences and four inspections. Murthy started his ‘mission inspection’ on day one where he ‘inspected’ BBMP Central office premises. In his first press meet, Mayor had promised to start a helpline at Mayor’s office. But till date it has not turned into reality.Though Murthy had confirmed that they will present the budget by the end of May, the deadline has been extended to June second week. Sources from BBMP said that it will be delayed further.During heavy rains in Bangalore, Mayor heard citizen’s woes and also visited a couple of places in Banashankari area, where trees were uprooted. However, he had to abruptly stop the inspection as he had to rush for a local festival at his native place. When contacted, Venkatesh Murthy said he is bringing out a small booklet about his achievements. He said that ‘Sammukha’, a public interaction programme will be held at Vidyapeetha Circle on Saturday, where the booklet will be released. “What has he (Mayor) achieved in the past one month and what is the need to bring these achievements on paper? Mayor is just wasting public money to boast his achievements that are nil,” a senior Congress councillor said.
