CHENNAI:  Rotary Club of East RA Puram (ERA) along with the Rotary Club of Nugegoda, Sri Lanka, donated four mobile toilets to the Corporation of Chennai today, at the Ripon Building. Mayor of Chennai, M Subramanian inaugurated the facilities.Contributed to the city at a cost of `4.5lakh a piece, the portable conveniences are to be used in places where the Corporation deems fit. Each is equipped with four toilets for women, four for men, and one for the physically challenged.Mayor Subramanian appreciated the efforts taken by the ERA. “It is the first portable toilet with facilities for the physically challenged,” he said. Answering a question on why the toilets in the city are not in good shape, the Mayor said, “I think you have not seen them recently. I would advice you to have a look now.”The special feature of these mobile toilets are that they have a lowered level toilet unit, designed to suit the requirements of the physically challenged. A separate ramp has been provided, and there is adequate spacing and hand bars inside. The body of the toilets are made of stainless steel to prevent rusting. Lighting and exhaust fans are provided. There are two septic tanks in each of the units and an overhead tank for water.President of the ERA, Selvam Alaghhappan and other members were also present at the inauguration. Maintenance will be done by the Corporation of Chennai.
