Mahadev Betting App Case: Absconding Suspect Deepak Nepali Arrested from Chhattisgarh
Mahadev Betting App: Deepak Nepali's involvement reportedly included the procurement of fake IDs to sustain the fraudulent activities of the betting racket.

Deepak Nepali, a prime suspect in the Mahadev betting app case, was arrested on Wednesday after joint effort by Durg Crime Branch and Vaishali Nagar Police in Chhattisgarh.

Nepali reportedly played a pivotal role as one of the key promoters of the illicit Mahadev online betting app. He hails from Chhattisgarh’s Vaishali Nagar, and served as a direct contact for the mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar.

His involvement reportedly included the procurement of fake IDs to sustain the fraudulent activities of the betting racket.

Dabur Group Chairman Mohit Burman and Director Gaurav Burman are among the 31 individuals accused in an FIR filed by the Mumbai Police in the Mahadev betting app case.

Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, along with various associates and partners, are responsible for running and promoting the app, which is now under scanner by agencies. The betting app case is being probed by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

ED had filed a money laundering chargesheet against Uppal and Chandrakar before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur in October.

A red notice was subsequently issued by the Interpol on the basis of ED’s request. The agency had informed the court in the charge sheet that Uppal has taken a passport of Vanuatu, an island country in the Pacific Ocean, even as he has not renounced Indian citizenship.

The agency had claimed in November this year, just before the first phase of Chhattisgarh assembly polls was to take place, forensic analysis and statement made by a ‘cash courier’ named Asim Das led to “startling allegations” that Mahadev betting app promoters have paid about Rs 508 crore to former Chhattisgarh chief minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel so far, The ED, however, said that these allegations were “subject matter of investigation”.
