M S Swaminathan visits bund construction sites

ALAPPUZHA: Agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan visited the Kuttanad package construction areas on Tuesday. He visited the construction sites in the C, D and R blocks in Kuttanad, where the bunds were constructed using pile and slab. He also visited the E and H blocks and Rani and Chithira kayal lands where the bunds will be constructed later."The project is expected to be completed by 2017. Co-ordination of various agencies is needed for the construction activities and the appointment of a project director will help the smooth conduct of the process,” he said, adding that a guideline is being prepared to co-ordinate the activities of various departments.“I will discuss the matter with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the prosperity council meeting to be held on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram,” Swaminathan said.Kuttanad Vikasana Samiti executive director Fr Thomas Peelianickal and Major Irrigation Executive Engineer P Anilkumar accompanied Swaminathan.
