CHENNAI: A man from Andhra Pradesh, who promised a medical seat to aspirants and fled with Rs 7 lakh, was held at Maduravoyal on Friday.Police said they received a complaint from Thrinath (19) of Adilabad, AP, who said he saw an advertisement in a Telugu daily of medical seats available in Tamil Nadu. The contact number of Nagaraj (32) of Chittoor, AP, was given alongside.When he contacted Nagaraj, he was asked to come to Chennai. Nagaraj promised Thrinath a seat in a medical college in Puducherry and told him that it would cost Rs 25 lakh. He, however, took an advance of Rs 7 lakh from him at a lodge in Maduravoyal and went missing. Thrinath also found Nagaraj's mobile phone switched off. Following a complaint, Nagaraj was picked up from Maduravoyal based on a tipoff that he was travelling in a vehicle with a Karnataka registration, heading towards Poonamallee.
Cash worth `7 lakh recovered from him. "He had told the youth that the college was the sister concern of a college in Maduravoyal," said a police official.
