New Delhi: Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday directed Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to ensure effective implementation of the water scheme launched by the previous AAP Government and also ensure that there is no water crisis in the city.
"DJB was asked to plan for its (scheme's) effective implementations in metered areas by ensuring meters remain functional and error-free," a press statement issued by the L-G said. The previous Delhi government led by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had launched the scheme to provide 667 litres of free water daily for domestic consumption to each household having a meter.
The L-G asked the officials to ensure that the scheme reaches its intended beneficiaries and is not misused by "unscrupulous elements". During a review meeting of the board, Jung directed it to prepare a summer action plan within two weeks and asked DJB officials to devise efficient ways to ensure that there is no scarcity of water during summer months.
The LG also took note of various problems faced by the board, and directed the officials to ensure the matters were resolved at the earliest. The meeting of the Delhi Jal Board was attended by Chief Secretary SK Srivastava, CEO DJB and other officials of the board.
