Lokayukta police arrested an executive engineer and a clerk posted with the water resources department in Katni on Thursday night, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from an employee of their own department to sanction his leave encashment.
Identified as engineer C K Thakre and clerk K K Sonvani, they were caught by the Lokayukta team after a tip-off. They had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 7,000 from complainant K B Gupta for sanctioning his 85 days' leave encashment.
He had already paid Rs 3000 to them and later tipped-off the Lokayukta office in Jabalpur after which a trap was laid. The moment he went to hand over the rest of the bribe money to Thakre, the official asked him to pay it to Sonvani, after which both were caught.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against them and further investigations are on.
