CHENNAI: Saveetha University celebrated its fifth convocation day at its MM Convention Centre recently, in which W Selvamurthy, Chief Controller R&D ( Life Scinces & International Cooperation), DRDO, participated as the chief guest. A total of 500 students, who graduated in Bachelor, Master and PhD courses from different departments including medical, dental, paramedical, engineering, nursing and management were given certificates on the occasion. W Selvamurthy, in his speech, stressed on to link the gap between R&D, academia and industries. He said that India has not become a global leader yet, as a result of knowledge drain due to brilliant young minds moving to other countries. He emphasised that a triangular private-public partnership between the three areas will be the future of science in India. “The research must be applied and problem-oriented in nature,” he said. Dr CK Dhanasekaran was conferred upon the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) award in recognition of his academic excellence in the field of dental education and healthcare sciences. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Dr Gunaseelan Rajan and Dr Ramalingam. The Entrepreneur Awards were given to K Balasubramani, Managing Director of Bharanee Builders and KK Ramesh, Managing Director, KKR Metal Components.
