CHENNAI: Overall, about 7.7 lakh students registered for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examinations, close to 10 per cent more compared to last year. Of these, 6.8 lakh appeared for the examination conducted from March 1 to April 13 this year. While the overall pass percentage at the national level, excluding Patna, in 2010, was 79.87, in 2011 it increased to 81.71 per cent. At the national level, the difference of pass percentage between the girls and boys was huge, with that among the girls being 86.93, while only 77.83 per cent boys passed.The Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) group of schools from the Chennai region performed well with a marginal increase in the pass percentage compared to last year. The Kendriya Vidyalaya students from Chennai also outperformed those in other regions, as their pass percentage was higher than the overall pass percentage of KVs from the rest of the country at 93.38. It was a similar case with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) from the Chennai region, which recorded the highest pass percentage at 98.32, among other JNVs in the country. Students who want to apply for retotalling should do so within 21 days, said R Sundaram, Assistant Secretary, Regional Office, Chennai. The Chennai region includes Goa, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Daman and Diu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
