BANGALORE: Strongly defending the Union government’s decision to hike prices of diesel, kerosene and cooking gas, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar urged the state to reduce sales tax and cess on the sale of petroleum products to provide relief to the consumers.KPCC president, on Thursday, said that the spiraling prices of crude oil price in the international market had forced the UPA government to go for the hike and blamed the state government for not taking measures to ease the burden on consumers by reducing cess and sales taxes on the sale of petroleum.Referring to the Congress nadige janara balige, he claimed that the campaign has generated more enthusiasm among the party’s rank and file in the rural areas.He said the party had conducted over 2,800 public meetings spread over 224 assembly constituencies in less than 15 days.
