According to police, a SMS message containing communally inflammatory content was doing the rounds in Coimbatore.  A special police team was constituted to trace the origin of the SMS. “Following investigations, officers of the Bazaar Police Station identified that the SMS was originally sent from a mobile phone belonging to B Mohamed Sheik Hassan, a resident of Al Ameen Colony, First Street in South Ukkadam,” a senior police officer said.Hassan was arrested and booked under Section 153 B (1) (b) IPC (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), Sec 505 IPC (Statements conducing to public mischief) and Sec 67 of Copy Right Act (Penalty for making false entries in register, etc., for producing or tendering false entries).Police produced him before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody. City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, who had a confidence building meeting with the Northeast people living in the city on Sunday, warned that those who sought to create panic and scare among any ethnic community would be dealt with severely.
