Meaning & Origin of TikTok's Sendy Shotty Trend
You’ve seen it all over TikTok, people saying something like, “Let’s get sendy!” or “Sendy shotty!” then eating their food weirdly. What’s sendy? What’s shotty? What does it all mean? We’re here to decode. We’ll tell you what the trend is, what the words themselves mean (there are some layers here), and where it all started.
Sendy Shotty Explained

What is the sendy shotty trend?

“Sendy shotty” is when you shotgun or chug something that’s not alcohol. “Shotgunning” a beer is when you puncture a hole in the can, pop the tab, and drink from the hole. It’s a big thing with frat guys and jocks, in general. Recently, people on TikTok are pretending (or sometimes not pretending) to shotgun other things, like tacos, bags of chips, bowls of cereal, or even non-food objects, saying “sendy shotty” before they do as part of the joke. It’s mostly a parody of frat bros, jocks, and college party culture. When people say, “sendy shotty,” they change their voice to sound more bro-y, like they’re getting into character. When they do it, they make a shaka with their hands, which is a fist with the thumb and pinkie sticking out—a Hawaiian greeting and hand sign that’s been adopted by frat bros and jocks. What does sendy mean?

“Sendy” is short for “send it,” which means “Let’s do it.” “Send it” is 90s slang and often used for extreme sports, frats, and other jock-centric activities. It means something like, “Let’s go,” or, “I’m gonna do it.” The exact origins of the phrase are murky, but to “send” something means to let it rip, like when you’re about to do something dangerous or exciting—you’d say “Send it!” to announce your attempt and commit to it. Similarly, when something is “sendy,” it’s dope, cool, tight, or rad. The phrase is big in sports like climbing and surfing, where dangerous situations are plentiful. Some say it’s also used in the military as a way to signal the start of an operation. When you do something “full send,” you’re committing 100%

What does shotty mean?

“Shotty” means to shotgun, which is to chug a drink. It’s something like a party trick, or just a party ritual. To shotgun a beverage, you hold the can horizontally and use something sharp to jab a hole in its side. Then, you pop the tab and drink from the hole. When you shotgun something, you hold it in a specific pose, out to the side, which people imitate for the “sendy shotty” trend. To “hit the shotty” means to shotgun something. Note that while “shotty” means “shotgun,” it isn’t a reference to the weapon. And why drinking a beverage that way is called “shotgunning” or where shotgunning started is a fact lost to party history.

Sendy Shotty Origin

Sendy shotty was inspired partly by podcasters the Nelk Boys. The Nelk Boys are popular lifestyle podcasters, streamers, and vloggers. One of their catchphrases is, “Let’s get sendy,” which they say before they do something risky or exciting. The phrase caught on as a meme, partly to parody the Boys, and was eventually wrapped into the “sendy shotty” trend.

The trend was popularized by TikToker @mackai.anderstrom2.0. In a TikTok uploaded on August 26, 2025, the user films himself eating a wrap. When he does, he “accidentally” eats it like he’s shotgunning a beer, then hits the shaka. Once he realizes what he’s doing, he acts surprised that he was recording and turns the camera off. People in the comments who realize what he’s doing (accidentally shotgunning a wrap) say he’s “aura farming” and celebrate the dope sendy. The video has 420k likes and counting, and inspired hundreds of parodies and copycats, giving birth to the sendy shotty trend.
