TIRUNELVELI: People continued to stage their hunger fast against Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) at Idinthakarai on the second consecutive day on Monday as the talks between officials and the protest committee failed. Cheranmahadevi RDO Raja Kirubakaran, ADSP Chokalingam and Radhapuram tasildarSivasubramanian conducted talks with the protest committee requesting them to halt the fast till an expert committee, as assured by the Prime Minister, was set up. But the committee declined the request and continued with their protest. It may be recalled that demanding KKNPP’s shutdown, people from coastal and other southern areas have been staging an indefinite fast at Idinthakarai village near Koodankulam since September 11.  The protest formally ended on September 22, as the Tamil Nadu cabinet adopted a resolution urging the Centre to suspend the work at KKNPP until people’s fears were allayed. But, the Centre’s announcement of setting up an expert group to allay fears over Koodankulam nuclear plant has not been received favourably by anti-nuclear activists. One of the protest committee members, Pushparayan, told Express that their main demand was to scrap Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project.
