BANGALORE: It seems the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) which has requested the State government to amend Karnataka Muncipal Corporation Act (KMC Act) to include more fire safety measures will have to wait a little longer. The proposal was made following the fire breakout incident at a BBMP office in July, earlier this year. During the time, a senior official had informed Express that Palike had sought amendments to the KMC Act.“High-rise building owners should henceforth get new fire safety licence from Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, which has to be renewed once in five years. Since we are not technically equipped, Fire and Emergency Services will look into the licence matter,” the official had said.Additionally, land owners should also obtain an affidavit from the BBMP once in two years to ensure the fire equipments are in good working condition.Official informed that councillors at BBMP had approved the proposal and they were waiting for the State government’s approval. After four months when Express contacted C K Ramamurthy, Standing Committee Chairman for Town Planning said they were still waiting for government’s approval for amendments in the Act.
