Jwala-Ashwini out of All England Open

Birmingham: India's Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa crashed out of the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, losing to second seeded Qing Tian and Yunlei Zhao of China in the second round of the women's doubles event here today.

The unseeded Indian combination lost in straight games 10-21 15-21 to their Chinese rivals in exactly half-an-hour.

Jwala and Ashwini were slow to start of the blocks and struggled to match their rivals in the first game.

But the Indians managed to lift their performance in the next and were going neck and neck till 14 points before losing the plot.

Tian and Zhao will next face secenth seeds Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark in the quarterfinals.
