JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar moves Supreme Court for bail in sedition case
Kanhaiya Kumar's counsel told Supreme Court that there were "extraordinary hostile circumstances" in the trial court, hence the bail matter must be heard in the apex court.

New Delhi: A day after the Patiala House Court sent Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president to 14-day judicial custody, Kanhaiya Kumar on Thursday moved the Supreme Court for a bail in sedition case.

Raju Ramachandran, the lawyer for Kanhaiya Kumar, told the Supreme Court that there were "extraordinary hostile circumstances" in the trial court, hence the bail matter must be heard in the apex court.

The JNUSU president's lawyer also told the Supreme Court that the Delhi Police was not registering FIR against lawyers who indulged in violence at the Patiala House Court.

Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Kumar is lodged inside Tihar jail under CCTV surveillance. The JNUSU president is in judicial custody till March 2.

Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi has reiterated that there is enough evidence backing sedition charges against the student leader. Speaking to CNN-IBN, the Delhi Police chief said that Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested completely on the basis of evidence.

Notably, Kanhaiya Kumar was on Wednesday attacked by lawyers as he appeared before the Patiala House court in the national capital.
