Several of Jaipur's IT companies have started evincing interest in preparing online games.

Jaipur: With the software industry rapidly gaining ground in Jaipur, many engineers are creating online games for countries such as the United States, Britain, France and Italy, contributing their expertise to virtual entertainment.

After New Delhi and Gurgaon, Jaipur - so far known more as a tourist destination - has become the next hub in northern India for online games. The games are just like online chatting where one can play the games without knowing the competitor - who may be from any part of the world.

Several of Jaipur's IT companies have started evincing interest in preparing these games.

"Software industry is growing in Jaipur. There are several ISO certified companies who have been preparing them for their foreign developers," a local software engineer, Rajesh Singh said.

Many software engineers have also stepped into preparing mobile games. The new trend is attributed to the burgeoning use of Internet and mobile phone. Normally it takes about eight to 10 months to complete one game like the popular Punch Ball and Age of Empires.

"These online games are played on the Internet and each player is connected through networking. Most companies are trying their hands on games like 'Punch Ball' and 'Age of Empires', which are much sought after games abroad," another software engineer, Kapil Gupta said.

"Hello Quake and Unreal Tournament are the city's other gifts to keep the cyber players engaged. Many of the locally prepared mobile games like Fighter, Jazz, Tennis Snake, Cricket and Super Real Tennis are also finding a good response in the foreign market," added Gupta.

"Mobile games have a very good market. Internet games need Internet access but mobiles are handier and one can use it any time. These games have the largest access as they are played by all age groups," a proprietor of one of the local software firm Sandeep Jain said.

Superior technical features seen in these games entice the game buffs towards them. Fantastic light and sound effects and free flow of imagination are other qualities that appeal to the users, Jain added.

Companies engaged in the development of these games are paid for the overall features of the game. The more inputs a game has, the more handsome is the price it fetches. It costs $3,000 to $15,000 to develop a game, Gupta said.
