KOLLAM: The judicial custody of the two Italian marines was extended to another 14 days by the Kollam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Monday. The marines, Latorre Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone, accused of killing two Indian fishermen, were sent back to the Poojappura Central Jail. Meanwhile, the defence counsel prayed to the court to order a re-examination of the weapons seized from Enrica Lexie. The petition filed on behalf of the marines states that the two Italian experts permitted by the court to be present as observers during the ballistic examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory, were not allowed during the crucial phase of examination and were just shown the results. Deputy Director of Prosecution K O Raju challenged the petition by stating that the Italian representatives withdrew from forensic examination voluntarily. The prosecution argued that the plea for re-examination was a move to find discrepancies in the forensic examination.
